...TRAVEL

As we speak we are coming to you live from the HolidayInn Express in NYC. It's been one of the craziest 24 hours of my life and we haven't even made it out of the country yet. However, lets rewind to yesterday when it all started.....
We left Maxwell around 1:00 p.m. and with only a couple of stops arrived in Chicago at around 7:00. We got checked into the hotel and went and had supper at Holy Mackerel with my parents. After supper we thought we'd check our flight status since we heard the weather was going to get bad and sure enough our flight had been canceled to JFK for today at 6:30. After waiting on hold with Jetblue for 45 minutes I finally talked to a nice lady named Beth where she delivered the amazing news that the next flight she could get us on was Friday night at 6:30. With that we decided we needed to book another flight so my dad found a Delta flight out of O'Hare to JFK at 6:15 this morning. We got to the airport around 2:30 a.m., said our goodbyes in which Mom did better than expected, and then waited in line at Delta for our tickets. We were fifth in line and talked to a guy going to the Czech Republic to study abroad so that was cool. We lucked out because once Delta finally opened their counter at 4:35 a.m. there were over 300 people in line behind us. Check-in went fine but Lyssa did get picked for the random full body screen and pat down. haha. Then at 5:45 just as they were calling first class to board they canceled the flight. Still in shock I was lucky enough to make it 3rd in line to rebook. They had 2 flights left. One to Atlanta or one to LaGuardia in NYC. We took the O'Hare to LaGuardia which left at 7:05 a.m. Once we arrived at LaGuardia I got a shuttle to pick us up and take us to JFK. We went to the South African Airways booth, where they were closed, and talked to a rep on the phone. Currently our flight to Johannesburg is still on track to leave at 10:40 a.m. tomorrow morning. So we booked a room at HolidayInn Express where we are currently at now. We have a shuttle scheduled to pick us up and take us to JFK tomorrow morning at 6:00. Just pray that NYC had decent weather in the morning and we can still make our flight.
I'm sure this was a little more detailed than some of you wanted but this is also my form of journaling about the trip. Hope everyone is doing well back home and enjoy the snow day tomorrow. See you in Africa...
